Collection consists primarily of manuscripts written and privately published by Armbruster. His main focus was Brooklyn, and his main works are THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF BROOKLYN, concerning the early history of such Brooklyn towns and villages as Bushwick, Greenpoint, and Williamsburg, and BROOKLYN EASTERN DISTRICT. Latter title contains historical notes of several hundred streets. Subjects of Armbruster's manuscripts range from Dutch influence in Brooklyn to ferries, Indians, and Coney Island. Collection also contains notes about Flushing history and genealogy. A few photographs, news clippings, and personal items complete the collection.
